One of the most important processes you will undertake as you set up your website is to create a number of “categories”.

In a moment I want you to look at the video below where I show you how to easily set up a series of categories but let me try and explain what categories are and their importance.

In a day or two from now you will be creating daily posts on your site, (dont’ panic its’ easy).  When you have created your daily post you will need to “place” it in a category.

In my www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog you will see that in the right-hand column there are a whole bunch of category titles such as:

* Egypt Sites of Interest
* Felucca Nile Cruise
* Luxury Nile Cruise
* Nile Cruise & Stay Holidays
* Nile Cruise Books
* Nile Cruise Guide
* Nile Cruise Offers
* nile cruise testimonials
* Nile Cruise Tips
* Nile Cruise Vessels
* Nile cruise videos
* Nile Cruises
* Nile Cruises – Photos
* Nile Cruises Egypt
* NileCruise Podcast
* River Cruises
* Wildlife Holidays in Egypt

So once I’ve finished what I’m writing about in my post I need to choose under what category I will place the post.  If it’s a “nile cruise offer” then the choice of category is pretty obvious from the above list.  (Hint..it’s in bold!!).  If the post is about a Nile Cruise and Stay holiday then, again, the choice is obvious.

As I keep adding posts to my website and allocating them to the various categories then each category is starting to fill with useful content under that heading.  As you start to create posts over the coming weeks I’ll explain how all of this will help to get your website further up the search engine pages.

For now you need to create about 10 categories for your site.  These “category names” should be based upon other search terms that your prospective visitors might use in finding holidays to your chosen area of expertise.

So let’s look at what I would do if I was creating some categories for a Madeira Holidays website.

I would probably create the following categories:

Madiera Special Offers
Madeira Hotels
Madeira Travel Information
Madeira Resorts
Madeira Weather
Customs and Festivals in Madeira
Getting to Madeira
Things to do in Madeira

…etc, etc.

Then, whenever I created a post I would have to decide which category that post fitted best.

So please try and decide on around 10 categories that best fit your area of expertise and then watch the video below where I show you how to actually create them on your site.
